Majors Rojelio and Rebecca Galabeas recently took command of the Plano Corps of the Salvation Army after serving 18 years across Texas, most recently in Laredo.

The husband-and-wife team said they're excited to serve their new community and are already exploring ways to expand services.

Rebecca said the couple first encountered the Salvation Army more than 21 years ago while attending another church.

"We started going and helping with the Salvation Army as we got introduced," she said. "My husband and I felt that it was a mission field for us."

The family became Salvation Army soldiers — the organization's term for church members — with their pastor's blessing. After attending a recruitment event, they prayed for months before deciding to enter the Salvation Army's seminary in Atlanta.

"We felt the calling. I did first, and then my husband," Rebecca Galabeas said.
