Recognizing Our Faithful Volunteers

Feb 15, 2023 | by The Salvation Army

In 2018, Keith Dold was introduced to The Salvation Army’s Plano Overnight Warming Station (POWS) through his church, Saint Mark. At the time, some members of the congregation were putting together a team to help out the newly formed POWS and immediately sparked Keith’s interest — and pulled at his servant heart.

Five years later, Keith has become a POWS staple. The faithful volunteer, season after season, volunteers to register guests, set up cots, and ride alongside Salvation Army staff to pick up those seeking refuge from the frigid temperatures. He was even awarded the Volunteer of the Year for POWS recently for his unwavering commitment to service and passion for Doing the Most Good alongside The Salvation Army.

Keith attends around 20 service events each winter, which often involves working around the clock, like during the recent weeklong icing this February. His most memorable was in 2021, when he was able to experience how The Salvation Army expanded its services in response to the long stretch of days during the monumental winter storm.

Many have gotten to know his friendly conversation and demeanor — he takes the time to get to know the people The Salvation Army helps and appreciate how special they are.

“I’m there to answer the call and be available when The Salvation Army needs it,” Keith said. “I just love doing the work. The guests that we house are such wonderful people. They are the most gracious and grateful.”
