Salvation Army Dallas Women’s Auxiliary Fashion Show & Luncheon Celebrate 30th Anniversary
The Salvation Army of North Texas’ Dallas Women’s Auxiliary celebrated the 30th anniversary of its highly anticipated signature fundraising event, the annual Fashion Show & Luncheon, this week at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center.
The Dallas Women’s Auxiliary welcomed donors, volunteers, leadership from The Salvation Army, and esteemed guests, such as former First Lady Laura Bush, to “Give in Style” and help raise vital funds that provide assistance to North Texans combatting poverty, addiction, and homelessness.
Hosted by event chair, Kim Quinn, and honorary chairs, Lisa and Clay Cooley, the 30th Anniversary Fashion Show & Luncheon included a seated lunch and New York-style runway show featuring fabulous designer labels generously donated from Dallas’ most coveted closets and boutiques. At the event, patrons were able to shop couture fashion at The Chic Boutique or purchase the runway items through a silent auction.
Jane McGarry, award-winning news anchor, reporter, and host of WFAA’s “Good Morning Texas,” served as the event’s emcee. Commemorating the 30th Anniversary, award-winning artist Liana Yarckin took inspiration from The Salvation Army flower, the poppy, to create a limited-edition scarf that was available for guests to purchase.
At the Fashion Show & Luncheon, Dallas Women’s Auxiliary president, Jennifer Dix, and founding Emeritus Auxiliary member, Margot Perot, honored Michal Powell with the Margot Perot Service Award for the countless hours of service, key strategy development, and fundraising she has given as a Salvation Army Advisory Board member and passionate advocate for since 2013.
For the first time, the Inaugural Legacy Award was then presented to Jan Strimple for her commitment to shaping the Women’s Auxiliary and the Fashion Show & Luncheon. Strimple’s vision and dedication has helped raise millions of dollars that go toward supporting men, women, and children in the North Texas community.
“Thanks to the generosity of our advocates, partners, and donors, we are able to provide transformational services to all those combatting poverty, addiction, and homelessness across the region,” said Major Dawn McFarland, area commander of The Salvation Army of North Texas. “It is through events like this that we are able to meet immediate and long-term needs for North Texans facing greater, continuous hardship than ever before.”
Preceding the Fashion Show, The Dallas Women’s Auxiliary hosted the Children’s Clothing Sale on April 1 and the First Look Chic Boutique on May 5-6 for North Texans to shop even more clothing and accessories and raise additional funds to support The Salvation Army’s service areas across Dallas, Tarrant, Ellis, Denton, Collin, and Rockwall counties. Since its inception in 1993, The Fashion Show & Luncheon has raised more than $15 million to support services provided at 14 local Salvation Army facilities.
The Salvation Army has expanded its resources in response to the circumstances thousands are facing: Its six shelters and senior living centers are currently housing 1,300 people per week, 12 food pantries are feeding 10,000 people per week, and three recovery programs are treating 500 people per week.
