The Salvation Army Packages Care Kits in Honor of North Texas Giving Day
To celebrate North Texas Giving Day this Sept. 18, The Salvation Army of North Texas is packing hygiene and care kits to distribute to those experiencing poverty and homelessness across the six counties and 4,000 square miles that the organization serves in North Texas.
To maximize community impact, this day of service will take place at three of The Salvation Army’s locations, representative of its vast reach and service to every zip code in North Texas. Thanks to assistance from corporate volunteer groups, each location will build 500 care kits. Ebby Halliday will volunteer at the event at The Salvation Army Arlington Corps Community Center; DR Horton will put together kits at The Salvation Army Plano Corps Community Center; and United States Cold Storage is participating in the event taking place at The Salvation Army Irving Corps Community Center.
The care kits will include personal hygiene items such as disposable razors, shaving cream, shampoo and conditioner, deodorant, toothpaste and more, and will be distributed to those experiencing homelessness in the Irving, Plano and Arlington communities.
The services The Salvation Army provides every day, year-round are vital to meeting community-specific needs wherever and whenever they arise. Each week, The Salvation Army of North Texas feeds 10,000 people through its 12 food pantries and treats 500 people through its three recovery program locations, and every night, houses 1,500 people through its four shelters and senior living centers.
All funds raised on North Texas Giving Day support The Salvation Army's programs and services dedicated to combating poverty, addiction, and homelessness allowing The Salvation Army to meet the immediate needs of the community’s most vulnerable, and then helping them on a path to self-sufficiency through wraparound case management and connection to life changing programs. Every gift on North Texas Giving Day is doubled thanks to a generous matching donor – Morrow Renewables – and will fuel life-changing programs that serve tens of thousands of our neighbors.
This includes emergency shelters and transitional housing for individuals and families, financial assistance and homeless prevention services, food pantries and meals to alleviate hunger, addiction recovery and rehabilitation, and youth development and after-school programs. Dollars donated locally will stay local. To donate, visit NorthTexasGivingDay.org/organization/SalvationArmyNorthTexas.
