On North Texas Giving Day this Sept. 21, The Salvation Army is honoring its home team of supporters through the inaugural Draft a Donor campaign.

Held from the Dallas Cowboys War Room at The Star, where each year The Salvation Army’s signature partner, The Dallas Cowboys, selects its own roster of newly eligible players during the annual National Football League Draft, the event will raise funds during the largest community-wide giving event in the country.

“As North Texans are feeling the impacts of inflation and rising costs, we are continuing to see families and individuals seek our assistance for the very first time. We meet individuals at the point of crisis, providing immediate support in addition to resources focused on long-term stability and self-sufficiency,” said Major Paul McFarland, area commander of The Salvation Army of North Texas. “North Texas Giving Day is a tremendous opportunity to support these efforts. Rally together with us and the Dallas Cowboys to make a transformational impact on the lives of our neighbors.”

Drawing inspiration from the NFL Draft, The Salvation Army is encouraging North Texans to participate in North Texas Giving Day for the opportunity to be recruited onto the nonprofit’s roster. A select few from the inaugural draft of donors will then be recognized publicly on North Texas Giving Day by The Salvation Army and Dallas Cowboys.

Leadership from The Salvation Army and Rowdy, Charlotte Jones, and Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders and alumni will be onsite in the War Room. All funds raised on North Texas Giving Day support The Salvation Army's programs and services dedicated to combatting poverty, addiction, and homelessness across the region.

"The Dallas Cowboys are honored to stand side by side with The Salvation Army in making a difference on North Texas Giving Day,” said Charlotte Jones, Executive Vice President and Chief Brand Officer of the Dallas Cowboys. “Our enduring partnership reflects our shared commitment to giving back to our community. 'Draft A Donor' is a testament to the power of collaboration and compassion, and we invite everyone to join us in providing crucial support to these essential services."

The services The Salvation Army provides every day, year-round to this new generation of need are more vital than ever. Each week, the organization feeds 10,000 people through its 12 food pantries, treats 500 people through its three recovery programs, and houses 1,300 people through its six shelters and senior living centers.

In honor of the decades of support the Dallas Cowboys have provided to The Salvation Army, participants can contribute a donation in the amount of their favorite player’s jersey number. All gifts provide shelter, meals, financial assistance, and hope to your neighbors:

  • $50 provides groceries for 10 families
  • $100 provides 5 nights of emergency shelter
  • $250 provides groceries for $50 families
  • $500 provides 25 nights of emergency shelter
  • $1,000 provides groceries for 200 families
  • $2,500 provides 6 months of rent, utilities & food assistance for a family
