Renowned Sportscaster James Brown as Keynote at Annual Doing the Most Good Luncheon
The Salvation Army of North Texas is pleased to unveil details for the 2023 Doing the Most Good Luncheon, its annual signature fundraising event that raises vital funds to support the ongoing needs of those combatting poverty, addiction, and homelessness in Dallas, Tarrant and Ellis, Denton and Collin, and Rockwall counties all year long.
On Thursday, November 16, 2023 at the Hilton Anatole, The Salvation Army invites donors, volunteers, leadership, and media to start the season of giving by helping North Texans in need find a new way forward. With the help of generous contributions during the holidays, The Salvation Army enables God-empowered transformations of individuals and society wherever and whenever need exists.
Event co-chairs, Lisa Cooley and Lisa Singleton, honorary chairs, Annette Simmons and Amy Simmons Crafton, and underwriting chairs, Claire and Dwight Emanuelson, will welcome keynote speaker, James Brown, at this year’s event. Brown is a three-time Emmy Award-winning sports broadcaster who currently hosts The NFL Today on CBS and Inside The NFL on Showtime. Among numerous broadcasting roles and accolades, he has hosted the Super Bowl a record-setting ten times, serves as a special correspondent for CBS News, and was elected to the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame in August 2020.
Outside of his time on-air, Brown is involved in various charitable organizations and is an ordained minister who actively shares his faith around the country. In 2009, he released his memoir, Role of a Lifetime: Reflections on Faith, Family and Significant Living, which shares lessons for readers to find fulfillment and significance. At the luncheon, Brown will inspire attendees with his personal and career journey and share his connection and relationship to The Salvation Army.

Following the impacts of inflation, rising evictions, and effects of the pandemic, The Salvation Army has expanded its resources meet a new generation of need. Its six shelters and senior living centers are housing 1,300 people per week, 12 food pantries are feeding 10,000 people per week, and three recovery programs are treating 500 people per week. Support from attendees and donors at The Salvation Army’s signature fundraising events supports this work in every pocket of the region — year-round.
