Warming Shelters

The Salvation Army of North Texas operates overnight warming shelters across North Texas. Financial contributions help provide warmth and safety for all those affected by the winter storms.

Inclement weather services help our must vulnerable neighbors stay warm and safe.

Our warming shelters offer a safe place to seek refuge from the cold, food and drink, emotional and spiritual care, and additional supplies to help individuals and families stay warm. Because The Salvation Army is embedded in the communities where it serves, teams are already on the ground and can respond immediately when a disaster strikes or weather suddenly turns.

Overnight Warming Shelter Locations
The following warming shelters are open in response to the weather:

In Tarrant County, the Arlington Corps Community Center and J.E. & L.E. Mabee Social Service Center
In Denton County, the Denton Corps Community Center and Lewisville Corps Community Center
In Dallas County, the Garland Corps Community Center and Carr P. Collins Social Service Center

Additional locations are also activating with warming shelter-specific services:

The Oak Cliff Corps Community Center is collecting blankets to distribute through their ministry
The Plano Corps Community Center will be traveling across the county to distribute sleeping bags, hand warmer, coffee and hot chocolate to individuals experiencing homelessness
The Irving Corps Community Center will be traveling across the county to distribute coffee, hot chocolate, warm meals, and warming supplies to individuals experiencing homelessness
The McKinney Corps Community Center will be handing out “winter care backpacks” with gloves, hats, blankets, umbrellas, hydration, and snacks, in addition to serving meals, to individuals experiencing homelessness

Protocol

Warming shelters activate when temperatures reach 36 degrees or below for more than two days in a row. Each shelter follows guidelines set by the city and the county. Exact protocols may vary depending on location.
